Ultimate Ears speakers are known for their excellent sound quality and special features. Just last March 2020, Ultimate Ears released their biggest Bluetooth speaker yet!
The UE Hyperboom is the biggest UE speaker out there, and it comes with impressive sound quality and special features that are sure to provide you with your needs. Since this speaker’s release, the UE Hyperboom has been one of the best big speakers in the market even today.
But before you make a purchase decision, I strongly recommend you learn the full specifications of the UE Hyperboom first.
Price
When it comes to the price of the UE Hyperboom, it is no surprise that it has quite an expensive price tag since this speaker belongs to the size category of big speakers, but its sound quality and features make up for the expensive price.
As of April 2022, the UE Hyperboom retails for $389. For comparison, the JBL Boombox 2, a big speaker also, retails for $500.
If you want to get the UE Hyperboom at a discount, I highly recommend waiting for a sale day or event to save money on top of your purchase. You won’t have to worry about waiting long since Ultimate Ears usually go on sale.
Design
Design-wise, the UE Hyperboom does not look that interesting compared to its competitors, which have light features.
Not only is the UE Hyperboom a big speaker, but it is also versatile.
The UE Hyperboom has a rectangular body covered in durable fabric so that this speaker can withstand accidental drops, bumps, and scrapes. The end top and bottom part of the UE Hyperboom is made of durable plastic.
For you to be able to conveniently carry this big speaker with you, Ultimate Ears designed this speaker with a built-in carrying handle.
Regarding the dimensions, the UE Hyperboom has a height of 14 inches, a width of 7.5 inches, and a depth of 7.5 inches. In terms of weight, the UE Hyperboom weighs 13 pounds.
Speaker Buttons
When it comes to the buttons, the UE Hyperboom has a total of 7 buttons at the top, which are the following:
- Power Button
- Volume Up Button
- Volume Down Button
- Source Button
Back Ports
At the back of the UE Hyperboom, you will find the following ports:
- AC Input
- USB A Output
- 3.5 mm Audio Jack
- Optical Port
Battery
In terms of battery, the UE Hyperboom has an advertised battery life of 24 hours which is very impressive.
However, keep in mind that the battery life on the UE Hyperboom will heavily depend on how high or low you play your music.
If you play your music at a higher volume, its battery life will drain faster. Playing your music at lower volumes will prolong its battery life.
For normal use at 80% volume, you will most likely get around 8 to 9 hours of playtime from this speaker, which is still very decent.
When it comes to charging time, the UE Hyperboom only takes 2.6 hours to charge, which is commendable.
It is also worth mentioning that the UE Hyperboom has a USB A output which means you can charge a device with this speaker.
Bluetooth Version
With regards to the Bluetooth version, the UE Hyperboom utilizes Bluetooth 5.0, which is very reliable.
The range and connectivity of Bluetooth 5.0 are decent, and you can play videos or movies with this speaker with little to no delay.
The UE Hyperboom does come with a 3.5 mm audio jack which means you can use this speaker with wired connectivity.
This speaker is unique from other Bluetooth speakers because it has an optical port. With the optical port, you can easily use this speaker for your television, gaming console, or receiver.
In addition, you can also use the buttons on the UE Hyperboom to control the music on the 2 devices it is connected with.
If you find that the music playing on the other device does not suit you, then you can play your music on your device or switch to your device with the speaker.
It is also worth mentioning that 2 devices can connect to the UE Hyperboom simultaneously, so you and your friend can easily take turns playing music.
Regarding the audio codec, the UE Hyperboom only supports SBC.
A cool feature that the UE Hyperboom has is its ability to turn on remotely through the Ultimate Ears app. You also have the option to switch audio sources directly from your phone through the app.
Water-resistant Rating
Regarding water protection, the UE Hyperboom has an IPX4 water-resistant rating which is commendable.
The UE Hyperboom is splash-proof, which means it will be perfectly fine if someone accidentally spills water on this speaker. If you use this speaker outdoors and it suddenly rains, you won’t have to worry about the speaker getting wet at all.
However, I recommend placing this speaker far away from bodies of water like poolsides to prevent this speaker from getting submerged in water.
Nevertheless, the UE Hyperboom is a great and durable speaker that can be used outdoors.
Speaker Specifications
Regarding speaker setup, the UE Hyperboom has dual 4.5″ woofers and dual 1″ tweeters shooting at the front of the speaker. At the backside of the UE Hyperbooms, there are two passive radiators.
Although all the sides on the UE Hyperboom have speakers, keep in mind that the back part of the UE Hyperboom are only passive radiators, meaning this speaker does not have a 360-degree sound output since its music is shooting at the front.
If you placed this speaker up against a wall, its bass would be amplified.
It is also worth mentioning that the UE Hyperboom has a built-in microphone which means you can use the UE Hyperboom as a speakerphone.
Sound
The UE Hyperboom sounds great. The mids and highs on this speaker are pronounced, and the bass is very powerful.
The clarity on this speaker is more emphasized than the bass but its bass can still vibrate throughout the room.
The UE Hyperboom has a wide sound stage and handles instrument separation well.
As mentioned, you will get more bass from this speaker if you put it up against the wall, but even if you do not, the bass on the UE Hyperboom is still very punchy.
You also have the option to customize the EQ settings on this speaker through the Ultime Ears app. In addition, the UE Hyperboom has a “Adaptive EQ” feature that allows the speaker to change its sound quality to a suitable level that fits your surroundings.
The Adaptive EQ feature will balance the sound quality on the UE Hyperboom and adjust the sound quality on the speaker depending on what type of music you are playing and what room you are in.
When it comes to maximum volume, the UE Hyperboom gets more than loud enough for indoor use, which makes it good for outdoor use.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the UE Hyperboom is no doubt an excellent speaker. Not only is the UE Hyperboom a great-sounding speaker, but it is also versatile thanks to its special features.
The UE Hyperboom is perfect for indoor and outdoor use since it has an IPX4 water-resistant rating. The battery life on this speaker is very impressive as well, and you can easily play this speaker all throughout the day.
If you are looking for a big speaker that sounds great with all the latest features, then the UE Hyperboom is one of the best options out there.
