Price
Since the JBL Go 3 belongs to the category of small speakers, it is no surprise that this speaker is budget-friendly.
The JBL Go 3 currently retails for $49 which is quite cheap considering its features. For comparison, the JBL Go 2, its predecessor, had the same price before as well when it was just released but now the JBL Go 2 has a price tag of $39.
Although the JBL Go 3 is a budget-friendly speaker, you can still get a discount on your purchase if you wait for a sale day or sale event. Luckily, JBL Go 3 routinely goes on sale so you won’t have to worry about waiting long.
Design
At first glance, you can tell right away that the JBL Go 3 has a new look and body.
The JBL Go3 features an all-new, durable design that has its entire body covered in strong fabric so that it can endure constant abuse such as accidental falls, scratches, and bumps
In addition to that, the JBL Go 3 now has a small hook or strap for you to conveniently hang this speaker onto walls, nails, edges, etc.
When it comes to color options, the JBL Go 3 has fewer color variants compared to the JBL Go 2.
The JBL Go 2 has 12 color options to choose from whereas the JBL Go 3 only has 6 color options which are the following:
- Blue
- Teal
- Camouflage
- Red
- Gray
- Black

In addition to that, you can have your own personalized or customized design for the JBL Go 2. As of March 2022, you cannot personalize your own design or colors for the JBL Go 3.
Along with the all-new covered fabric body of the JBL Go 3, this speaker also has an added rubber pad at the back so that you can play this speaker without having to worry about it moving around while it is laying flat.
Moreover, the JBL Go 3 now has rubber feet at the bottom so that it stays put on wherever you place it even at high volumes.
Overall, the JBL Go 3 has a much better design compared to all of its predecessors.
For the dimensions, the JBL Go 3 has a length of 3.4 inches, a width of 2.7 inches, and a height of 1. 6 inches. The JBL Go 3 weighs 0.46 lbs which is very light.
Speaker Buttons
Since the JBL Go 3 is a small speaker, it is fairly easy to navigate since it only has 5 buttons which are the following:
- Power Button
- Bluetooth Button
- Volume Up Button
- Volume Down Button
- Play and Pause Button
Battery
Unfortunately, despite this speaker’s many upgrades, the JBL Go 3 still has the same battery life as the JBL Go 2.
The JBL Go 3 is capable of playing for up to 5 hours but this could significantly go less if you play the speaker at high volumes. This means that the battery life of the JBL Go 3 is dependent on how loud you play it.
But nonetheless, the JBL Go 3 has been upgraded to USB C charging which is a big upgrade to the JBL Go 2’s slow and inconvenient Micro USB charging.
Since the majority of mobile phones nowadays come with a USB C port for charging, this makes the JBL Go 3 easy to charge since it has the same port as those devices.
Lastly, the JBL Go 3 only requires 2.5 hours for the speaker to be fully charged.
Bluetooth Version
Another major upgrade that the JBL Go 3 received was a new and improved Bluetooth version.
The JBL Go 3 comes with Bluetooth 5.1 which is a huge improvement from the JBL Go 2’s Bluetooth 4.1.
The Bluetooth 5.1 version of the JBL Go 3 has a better range and connectivity. In addition to that, there will be little to no delays when watching videos or movies with this speaker.
However, the JBL Go 3 does not have a 3.5mm auxiliary jack or audio jack. JBL decided to remove this since this speaker now has Bluetooth 5.1.
It is also worth noting that the JBL Go 3 only supports the SBC codec which is the most common type of Bluetooth codec.
But unlike other JBL speakers, the JBL Go 3 does not have JBL Connect Plus nor JBL Party Boost which means you cannot connect this speaker with other JBL speakers to play simultaneously.
Waterproof Rating
Another improvement of the JBL Go 3 is its waterproof rating which is IP67. The IP67 rating on the JBL Go 3 makes the speaker fully waterproof and it is capable of full submersion in waters of up to 1-meter depth for 30 minutes.
In addition to that, the IP67 rating comes with dust protection so you definitely won’t have to worry about small particles getting into this speaker.
Speaker Specifications
The JBL Go 3 has 2 speakers on it, which is impressive considering its size. Each speaker is designed to carry out certain levels of sound to carry out the right amount of bass, mids, and highs.
The JBL Go 3 has a 43mm and 47mm speaker with an upgraded output power of 4.2W RMS whereas the JBL Go 2 only had an output power of 3W RMS which is a noticeable difference.
Sound
For a speaker of this size, the JBL Go 3 is definitely impressive thanks to its louder volume and punchier bass compared to its predecessors.
There is without a doubt that first-time listeners of the JBL Go 3 will be impressed with this small speaker because of how well it delivers its bass, mids, and highs.
While shuffling through your playlists, you will notice that the JBL Go 3 is capable of playing any genre of music including rap, pop, rock, dance, etc.
In addition to that, you won’t have to worry about the JBL Go 3 distorting at high volumes because it is perfectly capable of playing full volume.
Final Thoughts on the JBL Go 3
Overall, the JBL Go 3 looks and sounds great! The upgraded features of this speaker definitely make the JBL Go 3 stand out compared to other small-budget speakers.
If you are an audiophile that is on a tight budget and wants a decent-sounding speaker, then I highly recommend the compact and powerful JBL Go 3!
It is also worth noting that the JBL Go 3 is easy to carry on the go with you so if you love traveling and music, the JBL Go 3 will be a great travel buddy for you!
Between the JBL Go 2 and JBL Go 3, I suggest you spend $10 more on the JBL Go 3 because it has a better and more durable design, Bluetooth connectivity, waterproof rating, charging, and most importantly sound.
With the combination of an affordable price, durable build, and outstanding sound, there is no doubt that the JBL Go 3 is one of the best budget speakers out there.
