Unless you’re a housework fanatic, you probably find sweeping and washing floors quite a tedious and time-consuming task. It’s been quite a few years since the launch of the first robotic vacuum, which was known to be quite rudimentary. However, With today’s rapid advancements in smart tech, it was only a matter of time before manufacturers came up with automated smart floor cleaners that could be a genuine asset.
Today, there are lots of companies that manufacture smart floor cleaners, but, despite all the advancements, there are only a few that can be trusted. One of those trusted companies is iRobot, which, to date, is the most famous and highest-rated manufacturer of smart floor cleaners.

Scooba 450 vs Braava 380t: Pros & Cons and Verdict
Before we start comparing Scooba 450 and Braava 380t, I’d like to say a few words. When it comes to floor washing, iRobot can offer several models that can do the job for you. These models are Scooba 230, 390, 450, Braava 320 and 380t.
Purchasing a floor cleaning robot is a good investment that can eliminate some unpleasant household chores.
So it’s vital to thoroughly analyse Scooba 450 and Braava 380t to determine if these smart floor cleaners are good and deserve the praise they’re getting.
Right now, we’ll start comparing the most important aspects of these floor cleaners, and before we conclude our comparison article, we’ll come up with a reasonable verdict and crown one of these robotic vacuums as the best one.
1. Setting Up The Floor Cleaners
The first thing we need to discuss is how to set up our floor cleaners. Since we’re paying a substantial amount of cash for these robotic vacuums, it’s kinda interesting to know how the setup process goes and if we can complete it without any professional assistance.
Setting Up Scooba 450
The Scooba 450 measures 3.6 inches high and 14.4 inches in diameter, which is a size that can get to the harder-to-reach spots in your home.
I won’t waste your time on talking about how to set up Scooba 450 since it’s pretty basic. To be honest, it’s impossible to mess up in this process because setting up Scooba 450 consists of three simple steps.
- Pop in the batteries
- Fill it up with water and don’t forget the soap compartment
- Press a couple of buttons
- You’re good to go
That’s everything you need to know about the setup process of Scooba 450. Plus, Scooba 450’s package includes an excellent start manual, should you need it.
If somehow you get lost in the process, take a look at the user’s manual or reach out to the support team and explain what issues you’re having.
Setting Up Braava 380t
Braava 380t measures 9.6 by 8.5 by 3.1 inches (WDH) and weighs 4 pounds. Like Scooba 450, Braava is rather easy to set up. It’s one of the most comfortable iRobots to activate, and the only the thing you’re required to understand is a few key buttons on the floor cleaner.
These buttons are power, mop, and sweep. Pretty easy, right? Before activating your Braava 380t, it’s essential to give it a full charge. To find out whether your floor cleaner requires charging or not, look for the blue light on the power button. If you can’t see it, it hasn’t completed the charging.

The actual setup is simple, and you’ll have your fully functional Braava 380t in a minute or two. I’ve talked to a lot of people who own this model and read numerous reviews, and NONE of them mentioned that they had issues with setting up their Braava models.
2. Rating the Design
iRobot has worked hard to ensure their floor cleaners have essential features – and they’ve also put a lot of work into making them beautiful and compelling.
The visual aspect is critical because:
- It drives a lot of attention
- Makes the product more desirable
- Makes the buyer happier
So why not make a smart floor cleaner that works great and looks gorgeous? Well, fortunately, both Scooba 450 and Braava 380t look good, and we can’t call either of them ugly.
Scooba 450 is a well-made, beautifully engineered product that compels people’s attention. Scooba 450’s design is something a lot of buyers talk about, and most of them like to compliment the smart floor cleaner’s looks.
All I can say is that the Scooba 450 looks great and as soon as you touch it, you’ll fall in love with it.
Besides being visually attractive, it’s vital for a robotic vacuum to have the right dimensions. If it’s too big or small, Scooba 450 will have trouble cleaning the hard-to-reach spots of your house. Luckily, the dimensions of Scooba 450 (14.4 x 14.4 x 3.6 inches) are pretty good, and it weighs 14.7 pounds.
I can speak from experience that Scooba 450 will have zero trouble cleaning spots under your bed, TV stands, sofa and furniture in general.
Braava 380t Design
Braava 380t is also a beautiful floor cleaner that surely deserves the same amount of praise as the Scooba 450 is getting.
To begin with, Braava 380t looks nearly identical to Braava 320. It’s quite hard to spot the difference between these two models.
Braava 380t comes in shiny black and has some matte black plastic along the sides. As we mentioned above, Braava 380t has three main buttons for activation and navigation.

Comparing Braava 380t to Scooba 450 regarding design is a bit hard because it’s tough to say which of them looks better.
In short, both of these smart floor cleaners look great, so which one is preferable design-wise will probably come down to personal taste.
As for the dimensions of Braava 380t, they’re pretty spot-on too, being 380 is 9.6 x 8.5 x 3.1 inches, with a weight of 8.8 pounds. Compared to Scooba 450, Braava 380t moves better – Scooba’s extra weight can make a robotic vacuum less flexible and moveable, which could possibly impact the efficacy of the cleaning.
The performance capabilities of Braava and Scooba is the crucial aspect of our comparison article because we have to discuss what could be a deal-breaker: the performance rates of our floor cleaners.
We need to know the capabilities of these smart floor cleaners to make the right decision and ensure we don’t end up with a product that doesn’t meet our needs and standards.

Performance of Scooba 450
The most important thing is that Scooba 450 works on REAL floors, as opposed to just relying on what the company claims it can do.
In most cases, Scooba 450 perfectly does its job, and it’s a real rarity when Scooba 450 underperforms. The AI of Scooba 450 is pretty good, and it does a perfect job when it comes to cleaning small rooms. It follows a disciplined process, and if the place you want to clean is a perfect square, Scooba 450 will do a flawless job.
As for the actual cleaning, Scooba 450 does an incredible job, and I was amazed when it finished cleaning. The amount of dirt that came out of the tank was genuinely unexpected. I couldn’t have imagined that a floor-cleaning robot was capable of so much.
Scooba 450 uses the new three-cycle cleaning, and as the company, iRobot, stated, it makes the process three times more efficient. Another great thing you should know is that lots of publishers have agreed and confirmed that Scooba 450 destroys 99.3 percent of bacteria.
Performance of Braava 380t
Braava 380t is a perfect floor cleaner too. It can mop and sweep, and undoubtedly, Braava 380t does both of them flawlessly.
All you need to do is press the start button, and Braava 380t will start either mopping or sweeping. As with the Scooba 450, I was surprised that Braava 380t had a tank full of dirt, and I assure you, my family always keeps the home clean. I mean, clean.
One drawback of Braava 380t is that it only works on flat surfaces. In other words, it works with tiled or hardwood floor. Forget about using Braava 380t for your rugs and carpets. The floor cleaner just hates and always avoids them.
What I like the most about Braava 380t is that it’s so silent. Quite often I forgot that Braava 380t was running and cleaning my place. So that’s a huge plus. You can even use your floor cleaner when your baby or another family member is asleep.

Another drawback of Braava 380t is that it can’t vacuum. On top of this, Braava 380t pays the same amount of attention to each area it cleans so some places that are dirtier than others might require human resources.
Overall, the performance of Braava 380t doesn’t fall short of the Scooba 450, and it surely delivers a satisfying cleaning experience.
It’s time to discuss the characteristics of these floor cleaners and find out what’s the maximum they can do. We’ve created a great chart that shows the features of Scooba 450 and Braava 380t
That’s pretty much everything about the features. We’ve listed the main things these floor cleaners can do, and as the chart indicates, Scooba 450 and Braava 380t have similar features.
It’s quite hard to define one of them as an actual winner since both of these robotic vacuums have decent, unique and functional features. So it’ll be wiser to say that the features of Braava 380t and Scooba 450 are on the same level.
5. Cleaning Capabilities
It’s essential to know the cleaning capabilities of Scooba 450 and Braava 380t in some detail since it’s the most critical aspect for buyers when deciding which robotic vacuum to purchase.
So there were several tests conducted, and we’ve analysed both of these smart floor cleaners in different situations. To find out how well they performed, make sure to read the results below.
Scooba 450 Cleaning Abilities
The first thing I’d like to mention is that Scooba 450’s battery is a bit weak and you only have about 40 minutes of work until it returns for a full recharge. But don’t freak out, Scooba 450 works pretty fast, and I’ve had cases when it finished cleaning without requiring a single recharge.
Here’s the first test Scooba 450 had to take and, as you see, it handled it pretty well. In this picture, Scooba 450 cleans marinara sauce spilt on a hardwood floor.
This task was pretty easy for Scooba 450 because it did a perfect job cleaning it; on completion of the task, there weren’t any stains visible. In this round, I’ll give Scooba 450 5 points out of 5.
Let’s move on to the next one.
In the second round, Scooba 450 had to reach corners and take out as much dirt as possible. Unlike the first test, Scooba 450 had trouble completing this task and it partially even failed.
If you take a look at the picture posted below, it’s visible that Scooba 450 had trouble reaching corners and taking the dirt out.
It is a bit disappointing, but if we remind ourselves how other floor cleaners perform and how much dirt they also leave in corners, it won’t be a surprise if we still give Scooba 450 four points out of five.
At the beginning of our article, we mentioned that there might be some manual work required to finish the job. Well, that turned out to be the case, and some human back-up was required!
In the last round, Scooba 450 had to clean dirt ingrained in tiles (including the grouting). That’s a tricky task since even people, with all their faculties, find it hard to clean tiles! Imagine how hard it is for a robot vacuum.
No, I’m not preparing you for the worst. On the contrary, Scooba 450 did an excellent job and almost made the tiles 100% clean. The small parts that were left dirty are minimal. Take a look at the picture. The floor’s well-cleaned and Scooba 450 deserves credit for a job well done.
Judging from what we’ve written above, Scooba 450’s cleaning capabilities are satisfactory. It delivers quite sharp results and can meet the high expectations and hopes people have.
Braava 380t Cleaning Abilities
Braava 380t is a more light-equipped floor cleaner that isn’t that powerful but can cover more ground. Let’s see the results of the tests. It’s pretty interesting!
In the first round, Braava 380t had to clean an oily hardwood. To find out how Braava 380t handled the job, take a look at the picture below.
It’s a bit depressing that Braava 380 couldn’t remove the oil from the surface. It made a small difference, but we’ve seen better. It’s true that cleaning oily floors is a tough task, though, so let’s not go too harsh on this robotic vacuum.
In the second round, Braava 380t was up against mud. Unlike the first round, Braava didn’t disappoint us and did a perfect job cleaning it off a vinyl flooring. Check out the picture posted below to have a better understanding of Braava 380t’s role.
I’m delighted with this round because Braava did a perfect job. That’s one of the best cleaning rounds I’ve seen. It was flawless.
I’m giving Braava 380t 5 points out of 5. Let’s move to the next, last, round.
Like Scooba 450, Braava is against the deadliest tiles that are hard to clean. While Braava 380t wasn’t able to deliver perfect results, it did clean the tiles pretty well. Some stains are slightly visible, but just a bit of manual cleaning will make the results perfect.
If we compare the cleaning capabilities of Scooba 450 and Braava 380t, I’d say that the 380t model upper-hands its competitor.
6. Advantages and Disadvantages
The next topic we should write about is the advantages and disadvantages of Scooba 450 and Braava 380t. It’s important to know the pros and cons of these floor cleaners to be sure that we’re purchasing a robotic vacuum that can meet our expectations.

Keep in mind that Braava 380t isn’t as powerful as Scooba 450, but it lasts longer (i.e. between recharges). Braava 380t can be an excellent choice for bigger houses where there’s a lot to clean on a regular basis.
One of the coolest and time-saving things you can do with Braava 380t is leaving it to work at night. It’s silent, and the noise won’t wake you up. But you can’t schedule Braava like other floor cleaners (i.e schedule it to activate and deactivate on its own).
So it might be a bit problematic since automating the cleaning process isn’t just physical. It also involves getting rid of the mental process. You need to get the job done without even thinking about it.
