Today, lots of companies manufacture robotic vacuums, and everyone seems to claim that their smart floor cleaners are the best ones on the market.
I’ve had interactions with dozens of manufacturers and tested numerous robotic vacuums, and, in my experience, there are just three or four companies making reliable products.
One of those trusted manufacturers is ILIFE. ILIFE is one of the best robotic vacuum manufacturers. They’ve released several best-selling models of smart floor cleaners, all of which are intelligent, efficient and worth the money.
In this article, we’ll review ILIFE’s strongest contender, the ILIFE A4 robotic vacuum. ILIFE A4 is a best-selling smart floor cleaner at Amazon and has thousands of positive reviews and satisfied customers.
ILIFE A4 Review: Pros & Cons and Verdict
Table of Contets
ILIFE is the main competitor of iRobot and Neato. The only thing that differentiates ILIFE from its competitors is that they focus solely on mid-range priced robotic vacuums.
ILIFE A4 is one of the best performing smart floor cleaners ever released, and it’s the main competitor of Roomba 650. If you’re interested how Roomba 650 and ILIFE A4 compare, read our comparison article.
In this ILIFE A4 review article, we’ll talk about the most critical aspects of this smart floor cleaner. We’ll write about its features, capabilities, design, pros and cons, setup, etc. We’ll also present handy charts that’ll help the reader better understand its capabilities.
1. Setup Process
Setting up ILIFE A4 is a simple process that doesn’t require any professional assistance or knowledge. I won’t waste your time on explaining the setup process step-by-step.
To activate your ILIFE A4, you just have to press the only button located on the surface of the smart floor cleaner. Apart from this, ILIFE A4 has a remote control, which you can use for scheduling, mode changes, etc.
ILIFE A4’s package includes a user’s manual that perfectly explains every part of the robotic vacuum. If you still get stuck during the setup process, you can reach out to ILIFE’s support team, and they’ll gladly assist with anything you think is relevant.
Today, when people think about purchasing smart gadgets, they make sure that those products are not just functional but also look attractive. Smart home shoppers want their smart home gadgets to be eye-pleasing; they often enjoy the novelty factor, too, of the devices attracting the attention of visitors, who are curious and drawn to the minimalistic, stylish design.
So it’s essential for our robotic vacuums to look good and shiny. Fortunately, ILIFE A4 is quite attractive, and a lot of buyers have noted how good the smart floor cleaner looks.

Besides being visually attractive, it’s vital for a robotic vacuum to have proper dimensions so that it can reach and clean the trickiest parts of your house. Luckily, ILIFE A4 is a well-designed robotic vacuum that has suitable dimensions (12.2 x 12.2 x 3 inches), and it weighs 4.9 pounds.
ILIFE A4 is available only in silver, and I must say that it’s one of the more attractive robotic vacuums. ILIFE A4 shines when it’s activated, which makes it quite swish.
Another point of interest is the bits and pieces you’ll find in your ILIFEA4 package. So here’s a full itemised list:
- Robotic Vacuum x1
- User Manual x1
- Remote Control x1
- Extra Hepa Filter x1
- Extra Side Brush x1
- Cleaning Brush x1
- AC Adapter x1
- Charging Dock x1
To sum up, if we visually compare ILIFEA4 with other models like V3 and V5, we can say that, without a doubt, ILIFEA4 comes out ahead. ILIFE A4 is a smart floor cleaner with an outstanding design.
The performance factor can be considered the lynchpin of our comparison article. Anyone interested in purchasing a robotic vacuum cleaner will want to know, above all, about the actual performance in terms of ability to clean. If a smart floor cleaner can’t clean to a reasonable degree, then the potential purchaser will want to look for an alternative product. So, we need to know how well ILIFEA4 can perform and if it’s truly worth the investment.
To begin with, I’ll say that ILIFE A4 isn’t as smart as other notable robotic vacuums like the iRobot Roomba 960 and 980. A4 is a random-cleaning smart floor vacuum that regularly misses spots and doesn’t understand which places need more or less attention.
But compared to V3, the A4 model is way more powerful, smarter, faster and capable. What I love about A4 is that its sleek dimensions (reduced height) allow it to go under couches and other low furniture smoothly.
The increased speed of this ILIFE model is great since the A4 can cover more ground in less time and hence with less battery consumption. ILIFE quotes the A4 model as having a 120-150min runtime, but when we’ve tested it, A4 worked nonstop for 180 minutes! Now, that’s a real game-changer.
You might think that since the A4 model is shorter, it would mean the dustbin will be shorter too (i.e. have less capacity) than in the previous ILIFE models, or, at best, be the same size. But the fact is that ILIFE A4 can now hold more dirt, hair and dust. So you don’t have to clean and check it as often.
We did say that A4 isn’t as smart as other notable models, but it has some unique characteristics that are impressive nonetheless. For example, A4 will instantly know when it touches the surface of a rug and when it does, it’ll turn on the deep cleaning and slow down in order to deliver optimum results.
Another great thing about A4 is that it runs whisper-quiet. You might even forget that you’ve left ILIFE A4 activated… although it’s louder and sounds “more aggressive” when you turn ILIFE A4 onto “maximum mode”.
It’s essential to place the docking station in a place where obstacles are not present so that the robotic vacuum doesn’t get stuck on its way there. When the battery runs low, ILIFE A4 is supposed to return to its docking station automatically.
I’ve had a few occasions when ILIFE A4 got lost on its way to the docking station, but this “blip” is quite rare.
ILIFE A4 also has a remote control that can be used to navigate, activate and command the smart floor cleaner. For example, you can schedule your ILIFE with the remote control, command it to start cleaning and give special orders by pressing the ‘Edge’ or the ‘Spot’ button. I’ll explain what these two buttons mean:
- Edge – It commands ILIFE A4 to focus on the wall edges
- Spot – It makes ILIFE A4 focus on certain spots only
The remote control of A4 also has a button that enables you to:
- Pause the cleaning process
- Put the smart floor cleaner in sleep mode
You can automatically schedule your smart floor cleaner by pressing ‘Plan’ and ‘Clock’ buttons on its remote control. You can even command it to clean your house every day at the same time.
The most significant drawback of ILIFE A4 is that it doesn’t have the Virtual Wall Technology that would make the smart floor cleaner understand its surroundings better. For example, VW technology makes robotic vacuums more intelligent and focused. It prohibits them from entering certain places and makes the whole vacuuming process a lot more specific.
Another important topic we need to write about is the features of A4. If A4 doesn’t have the vital features of a robotic vacuum, we should think twice before purchasing it.
Hence we’ve created a detailed chart that shows the critical features of A4. We must find out if A4 has anything unique to offer and if it differs from other ILIFE smart floor cleaners.
|FEATURES OF ILIFE A4|
|3-Step Cleaning System|
|Auto Dock & Recharge|
|Infrared & Cliff Sensors|
|Tangle Free Sensors|
As you can see, ILIFE A4 is a pretty skilled robotic vacuum that has an excellent set of features.
5. Cleaning Capabilities
People who are interested in purchasing robotic vacuums make sure that the device they’re about to buy has good cleaning capabilities.
So it’s crucial to know if A4 can adequately navigate, clean and generally perform at an acceptable level. A4 is one of the best robotic vacuums ILIFE Technology has ever released. It’s cost-effective and can do an outstanding job cleaning around the house.
We’ve tested ILIFE A4 on different surfaces, and we got some mixed results. We made A4 clean dirt, fur, stains, dust, etc. To be honest, I was surprised with the results A4 delivered. It left little to no dirt behind, and as we said before, the dustbin is quite large and can hold large amounts of dirt.
However, things went out of kilter when it had to clean soil off the kitchen tiles. The only thing A4 did here was spread the soil around the kitchen and make matters worse.
When we switched A4 to MAX Mode, we did see some improvements, but it wasn’t up to the mark. It still had a hard time cleaning soil off the kitchen tiles.
Since ILIFE A4 is a random-cleaning robotic vacuum, ILIFE had to come up with something that would ensure quality cleaning with minimal numbers of missed spots. So they gave the A4 a simple cleaning style, moving forward and back.
What I don’t like about A4 is that the HEPA filters aren’t washable. Due to HEPA filters’ direct exposure to dirt, it’s essential to change them every 3-6 months, and A4 doesn’t give us the freedom to clean them instead.
Note: As mentioned, A4 can dock itself, but occasionally it fails to do so. If you leave your A4 unattended, you might come back to find it stuck between the furniture with the battery drained out.
If you’re interested in how the Remote Control of A4 works, I’ve uploaded a great picture that explains the purpose of every button.
A4 has a fantastic cliff sensor that prevents the robotic vacuum from falling down the stairs. Lastly, to maximise the cleaning process of this robotic vacuum, be sure to:
- Free the room from obstacles that may interfere with the cleaning process
- Place the docking station in an obstacle-free area
- Remove any loose wires from the floors
- Turn on the MAX Mode if A4 is having trouble picking up the dirt
In short, this smart floor cleaner has some good cleaning abilities, and I can say that it’s one of the best in its price range.
6. Advantages and Disadvantages
It’s also essential to know the advantages and disadvantages to make an informed decision. It’s important to be ‘clued up’ on this information before, rather than after, purchase.
To ensure that you can absorb the most relevant details at a glance, we’ve created a neat chart that perfectly illustrates the pros and cons of this smart floor cleaner.
|MAX Mode||Sometimes Gets Stuck|
|3-Stage Cleaning System||Weak Navigation System|
|Simple to Use||Sometimes Can’t Locate the Docking Station|
|Deep Clean||Purchase ILIFE A4|
If we judge from the chart above, it’s pretty obvious that A4 has some advantages – and as for the drawbacks, yes, those listings do detract from the product’s efficiency.
For every customer, it’s important to have the opportunity to talk with someone who will assist and answer their questions. Quite often, when people purchase a robotic vacuum, they can’t figure what’s what and if they are unable to find the answers in the user’s manual, the only option left is to contact the customer care.
Luckily, ILIFE is well-known for their superb support team. If you ever have any questions regarding your robotic vacuum, visit their website. From there, you can call, email or Tweet. I’d say the best option is calling since the response time is quicker than with Tweets and emails.
ILIFE A4 Review: Detailed Chart
Lastly, before concluding our review, I’d like to present a review chart that shows every critical aspect of this robotic vacuum. With this, it’ll be easier for the buyer to determine if A4 is a good buy for them or not.
A4 has every important feature that makes a robotic vacuum good. It’s quiet, has a great feature called ‘MAX Mode’, has a remote control, and moves pretty fast and effectively. I can even say that A4 is one of the best smart floor cleaners in its price range.
The Bottom Line
So ILIFE A4 is a best-selling robotic vacuum that has thousands of satisfied customers. Today, many consider A4 as ILIFE’s most successful release. It’s reasonably priced, well-built, durable and efficient.
I’ve personally owned it, and while it’s not the best robotic vacuum I’ve interacted with, it surely is an excellent smart floor cleaner with great features and cleaning capabilities. It would’ve been better if it had Virtual Walls Technology but it still manages to navigate itself pretty well.
Also, the remote control is a plus, giving more options in managing your smart floor cleaner. With this simple tool, you can easily activate, guide and command it.
Lastly, all I can say is that A4 is a wonderful robotic vacuum that can meet the needs of any buyer. It’s smart, fast, powerful and durable. It has some drawbacks but, hey, we don’t have a perfect smart floor cleaner on the market yet.
